I hadn't been on the internet long when I realized that I'd love to build my own website. I started with a site on my provider at the time, it was a simple one page site, very long in length, and by today's standards, laughable. I learned html from a site known as Virtual University. They are still teaching everything from html, to nutrition. At the time the classes were free, you simply signed up, did the lessons, participated in the chat and graduated.
While in that class, I found out about IRC, and got involved with the software client known as mIRC. I participated in a channel where they showed colored art, mostly using ASCII art. While participating in that channel, I built a website for the channel at http://www.mirc-rainbow.com it is now offline, the domain owned by someone else, but without having built that site, I never would have gained the knowledge and familiarity with html that I have today. I owned it for about seven years, but had left IRC long before I gave up the domain and site.
