12 Days of … Day 1

12 Days Of-2018Well, here we are the first day of the 12 Days of … at Seams To Be Sew. I must say it was fun to read your comments from the last post with your guesses. I had some really good chuckles. 🙂

So, today is the day, to find out the theme, grab the first pattern and then come back on Monday for the next pattern to come.

So, let me talk about why I chose the theme I did, and perhaps you’ll understand why it’s so special to me this year.

First, I love Winter. it’s my favorite time of the year. Not because of Christmas, or the New year, or even Valentine’s Day, but because of the snow. I love love love snow. I get very disappointed and discouraged when we’ve had winters without any or very little snow.

As a child, and because when it snowed in Idaho Falls, it wasn’t just an inch of snow and then gone, it lasted for weeks and there were so many fun things to do. I loved shoveling the sidewalk and driveway, I loved making Snow Angels, going tubing, skating, and making Snowmen. So, in my hope for Snow this year… I am hoping for 12 days of Snow.. thus my theme for this year is Snow, the wonderful world of the beautiful white ground cover that comes during Winter. I am optimistic this year, I know we are due for a major snowstorm here in Colorado Springs. 🙂

So, when I said I had left many clues just hanging about, I have, over the years, I’ve mentioned how much I love Winter, and snow, and the logo and the header for 12 days this year more than shows what the theme of this year’s event is. 🙂 Many of you were very close to what it truly is. However, there is more than just snowmen to this theme. 🙂

Happy Birthday and Thank You for all that you do for us! I personally am not a fan of snow unless I do not have go out in it. I am one that loves the view of snow from a distance but I know I’ll love these !

  5. Michele-Marie says:

Birthday wishes and thank you for the beautiful block.
It is a lovely start to the 12 Days 🙂

  6. Susan says:

Okay, so hand me the dunce cap. Snow! I am just clueless. =) I grew up where there was almost never snow, and I’m not a fan. I admit it’s beautiful, and if I don’t have to go out in it, and I have a nice fireplace and plenty of wood, then, yup, I can enjoy it, too. =) Thanks so much for the snow angel fence, and for the birthday embroidery. I might have an embroidery machine someday again, you never know! Happy birthday! Mine is in 12 days. =)

  7. Edi says:

Thank you, as always for sharing your designs and patterns. Now to find some time to get them made up 🙂

  8. Marti Morgan says:

Oh Marion, you are talking from my heart! I LOVE snow! I am disappointed when there is no snow, and now that I am living in northwest Tennessee, it more than likely won’t. But it has and I love it. I miss snow and that is the main reason I want to move back to Michigan. Love the theme and the block. Thanks.

  9. Sherry in NC says:

Thank you so much. I like looking at snow but not being out in it. I have made snow angels a time or two, though.

  10. claire says:

Thank you so very much. I was 8 when I first saw snow and I love it too! Have a very happy Birthday.

  11. Susan says:

I was just thinking today how I used to love to lay in the snow and make snow angels. We get our share of snow here in Michigan.

    Happy Birthday.

  12. Chris says:

Happy Birthday Marian, thanks for the pattern. Where I live in Australia I’ve never seen snow so it’s nice to be able to at least have a snow project to sew, have a nice day/evening.

  13. Wendy says:

Thank you Marian, and a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you! We have snow here in Michigan. It is not my favorite thing but, it is beautifull at Christmas time.

  14. Sandy Wootten says:

    Have a fabulous Birthday today❣️

  15. Caroline says:

Happy Birthday and thank you for the Freebies. I live in Tasmania, Australia so not a lot of snow but, as we are heading into Summer, none at all at the moment 🙂

  16. Brenda says:

Happy, happy birthday, Marian! I’m so glad you chose snow!! While I’m too afraid of breaking bones, I no longer get out in it, but I do enjoy seeing it – and my grands love it. We don’t get very much here in Alabama, so it’s always a treat when we do – as long as there’s no ice – but there usually is. 🙁

  17. Sharon Aurora says:

Happy Happy Birthday, Marian! Thank you so much for both patterns. I love snow too, but I hate the cold. You brought back so many good memories of my own childhood. I grew up in Pennsylvania and I loved playing in the snow with my brothers, sledriding down steep hills, building snow forts. And then after getting all cold and wet, going indoors where our mom would greet us with hot chocolate and cookies.

  18. Chris says:

    thank you for the pattern

  19. Lori Smanski says:

I am a fan of winter if I can stay inside. LOL I love snowmen though. I do collect them. Thank you for the pattern today. This will be a fun few days. Thank you 🙂

  20. Eva says:

Thanks for the awesome block, so looking forward to the rest. On a even happier note,” Happy Birthday Marian”.

  21. Jeannie says:

Happy Birthday!!!! I too love the snow. It’s so peaceful and pretty when it first falls-I have to admit, I don’t like the dirty, slushy stuff, so then I hope it snows again. 🙂

  22. Sue Raymond says:

While I’m not as big of fan of winter, I do have great memories of snow angels and other winter fun from when I was a kid. I appreciate you sharing your time and talents with us.

  23. Carol O says:

Happy, Happy Birthday!!! Have a Wonderful one.

Happy Birthday Marian! Thank you for the 12 days free designs.

  28. Joan says:

Happy Birthday Marian…it just doesn’t seem fair that we get the presents from you! LOL!! Thank you so much for taking me down memory lane with the snow angel block. I grew up in Chicago and we had tons of snow!

  29. Shelley says:

Thank you for the pattern and for the story behind it. I grew up where it never snows and always wondered what it would be like to have a “White Christmas”

  30. Kathy E. says:

I wish you the very best of birthdays today, Marian! I also wish you a whole bunch of snow to celebrate your favorite season! Thank you for all you do for the sewists in the world and the lovely angel today!

I’m not too excited about snow but love how life slows down after Christmas! Think to think about new quilt projects or just read a good book.

  34. Joyce Carter says:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARIAN. I hope you have a fantastic day.
Thank you for the pattern. I love snow too, but here in the South, we don’t get a lot. It usually is just a sprinkling,

  35. Mary Furber says:

    And a very Happy Birthday!

  36. Mary Furber says:

Hi Marian – I think you have a winner with the snow themed project. Will these be all the same size blocks, or variable?

  37. Frances Campbell says:

Happy Birthday ~~ Thank you for the cute Snow Angel pattern. Would be very happy to share the snow and the storm we had yesterday.

  38. Rita AM says:

Happy Birthday Marian thank you so much for the wonderful patterns. Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons I like to rake leavers and shovel snow. I love how the snow muffles sounds and covers all. My birthday is on Monday maybe it’s a Sagittarius trait to love snow. anyway enjoy your day.

  39. Janet P. says:

What a lovely block! Thank you for sharing! I, too, like snow but I prefer to see it through a window with hot chocolate, lol.

  40. Connie says:

I tried to post and it doesn’t seem to have come up, so I wanted to make sure that I said thank you for the beautiful block and to let you know that I very much appreciate your constant generosity! And a super Happy Birthday!!!

  41. Connie says:

Beautiful! Almost made me forget I’m freezing up here in the 8 months of winter! As always, your generosity is so appreciated!

  42. Ronelle says:

What a wonderful theme and block, Marian. Thank you very much.
I must say, unfortunately we don’t get to see much snow in South Africa. That does not mean I love it any less.
