More New BOTMS, Wooly Block 2019, and other Events…

Coming October 1st is my all time favorite event for the year. Please don’t get me wrong, I love Block of the Months, Quilt Alongs, and other fun events that go on thru the year, but the one I’ll call a “temporary” event is the Wooly Block Adventure Event. Since I found out about the Wooly Block Adventure event in 2016, and was actually participating in it during our move back to the states that year I have thoroughly enjoyed this event. I got to do a bit of pay if forward with this event in 2016 when I visited shops to pick up kits for others and then ship the kits to them as they had been so kind as to send me Row by Row experience patterns and kits in 2015 and 2016.  In 2017, this event went to an online event. I was ecstatic. I knew at the same time we’d see a huge drop in shops that would participate because they are so against online stuff that they just refuse to participate. I’ve been told this by my own shops here in Colorado Springs. The following year in 2018, there was a large drop in shop participation, I was actually worried we wouldn’t see this event in 2019. Thank goodness, Janet must love this event as much as I love the row along each year because once again we have Wooly Block 2019. This year’s theme is Holiday Celebration and from the blocks they are now showing on the Facebook Wooly Block page, we are in for some absolutely gorgeous blocks.

How does this event work you might ask, well it’s pretty simple. If they stick to the schedule they had last year, downloads for patterns are via pdf. Two to Three new shops are featured every 2 days usually around 10am est, and they are there rain or shine… like the post office… ummm hiccups happen, but they will make good on any bad things that happen and they do. Give them some respect, the first week of any event is always the most frustrating because things do happen and they are quick to try and fix. Normally the pdfs are downloaded right at the rbr website wooly block page and at the same time I do recommend you try to download on a desktop or laptop versus a phone or small mobile type device. Not all hosts allow pdfs to download properly, check your downloads for the 0 bytes, if the pdf downloaded to 0 bytes it is corrupt and will need to be downloaded on the proper device. Be sure if it does show some bytes that it also properly opens and you can see a pattern. You can always check the Facebook group, most people will talk about it if a download is bad. If the download is from a shops website, sometimes there host is not prepared for the sheer amount of downloads that will happen either and be prepared to have to possibly use a cart, and go look at the kits, they are worth the money imho… I can’t afford to get them all at once, but I am usually buying kits well into January so I have the kits I need to finish the pattern with. Wool is not something I keep on hand, so this is the one time I will buy a kit over just having a pattern. Our shops here in Colorado Springs do carry wool, and I will use them for backgrounds as the one thing I do like about my quilts is to use some sort of fabric that is what’s the that word I want.. cohesive… So I’ll buy something I can surround my blocks in so they look cohesive. I think I learned that word “cohesive” on Project Runway… 🙂

You can find about about the featured days of each shop at the Facebook Wooly Block page or in the Facebook Wooly Block Neighborhood group. I also announce it on my Facebook page, and my group stbs-Events and Row Alongs on Facebook, and I try to post each day on my blog to let you know also, but sometimes I don’t have a post to blog about so that makes it a bit harder as I like to do more than just post about an event. The Wooly Block Adventure is brought to you by Janet Lutz the owner of the Row by Row Experience.

These are other events happening over the next few months… One of these is ending…. I’ll talk about each of them just a little bit as some have not started, some have started… etc…

Puppy Girl Designs is a monthly botm, it features hand embroidery and pieced block areas. There is a main block and a bonus block to download each month. If you miss the bonus block, you’ll have to purchase it from her shop on etsy. Currently, August and September are free to download for the main blocks as is the September bonus block.

Morning Glory Designs has finished there 2019 BOTM, and is now featuring a Holiday BOTM. This is a monthly botm, but will only run 4 months and you’ll need to be a member of the newsletter to get these blocks. As always, Reeze is doing a bonus block with this botm and you’ll need the coupon code to get it free. The coupon code is only available in the newsletter. We are now in the second week of this botm, so if you aren’t on her newsletter you will need to purchase the first weeks blocks.

Claudia’s Quilts is back with a new block of the month. Starting October 1st, is her snowflakes quilts. These are paper piecing patterns and Claudia is amonst one of my favorite designers. She does beautiful patterns each month.

Farmhouse Threads is bringing us a new 12 week botm featuring ornaments for Chrismas. I am very excited about this one. It is weekly tho, and I do not know as yet how long the downloads will be, I do know from past QALs that you don’t want to miss these patterns. The designers that participate in these QALs are amazing. Starts September 17, 2019.

Sew Lets Quilt Along, from Snow Days Quilting brings you this one and because it’s just so darn cool I’m telling you about it only because I just barely found out about it. However, it ends September 24, 2019. All of the blocks tho are still available to download free until then. Quite a few designers participated in this, you’ll have to visit each site to download the patterns. Go Get Them.

Fandom Stitches brings us A Rankin/Bass Holiday Favorites QAL. This quilt along started in August, but these are all still available to download just like all patterns at Fandom Stitches are. This is a very fun QAL that you will not want to miss.

Wooly Block… I mentioned this above (raved actually)…

12 Days of 2019 – My yearly event for the 12 Days of Christmas, but slightly different. Normally I leave off the word Christmas, because I like to do themes that reflect that time of year, but not necessarily Christmas although there is always a bit of Christmas within the event. This is a pattern a day for the first 12 business days of December. Downloads are 24 hours only, so you do have to come every day to download the new pattern. More about this event for those of you who’ve never attended later in November.

All of these (with the exception of 12 Days of 2019) have been added to my Around The Web Block Events page also.

I am an affiliate of the above companies when you click one of these links and purchase something, I earn a little bit of a commission with it. I use this money to help maintain my website and offer my free patterns to you. Every little bit helps, thank you so much for clicking and for your support. I don’t just offer up these brands to you I actually use their products and shop at these places. I would never partner with someone whose products I didn’t use.

Please remember it takes 2 minutes to comment, please say Thank You, whether you downloaded a free pattern, read a tutorial, or just learned something new.  It takes time for people to write a post, take pictures, make a project or even write a pattern.
Let them know you appreciate it.

If your comment doesn’t show up after you post it, it’s most likely gone to the spam folder. I will see it and approve it, unfortunately, it just means something about your email address caught my spam filter’s eye.

I am in no way affiliated with the Row By Row Experience. I’m just a fan of this event as I love the idea that we get to support our local shops. The logo(s) have been approved for use on this blog by Janet Lutz founder of the Row By Row Experience.
