Quilt Block Mania – January 2021 and some changes…

Quilt Block ManiaWell it’s finally 2021 and time as they say starts a new each year. I haven’t made new year resolutions for many many years as I find they don’t really put me in a mindset that says I should set a goal to do it and then keep it. I know many people who can do it, it’s just not something I’ve been able to do. At the same time, I do finish thing that I start, which is why I am intent on finishing up Sunbonnet Sue’s botm over the next few months, why I am still part of Quilt Block Mania… this little free pattern has given me an opportunity to explore new ideas and at the same time offer a free monthly pattern for all who visit.

I keep these patterns free for one month only unlike many of my other free patterns which range from one day to 2 weeks. This is the only event I am part of where I keep the pattern free for the entire month. Once a free pattern expires, it’s marked at a very high price in the shop so that you won’t make the mistake to try and purchase what isn’t a full pattern. My full patterns are different from my free patterns in that they include more features that make it easier for you to create the pattern.

I’ve had this blog now for seven years come April. I’ve made many changes to my patterns over the years and that continues to happen as I’ve done so again with 2021. I will no longer include SVG Cutting files or machine embroidery files with my patterns. (They will finish with the Sunbonnet Sue in the USA series but no other patterns will include them) For many years I offered these as extras but to many artists do not allow SVG to be distributed in this manner and because I did this as a free feature along with the machine embroidery I’ve chosen to discontinue it. This makes it much easier for me to release patterns in a more timely manner. Instead I will add current tutorials on how to convert the templates and layouts to SVG cutting files for you to create on your own over the next few months or so.

My health continues to be an issue. I spent last week in the hospital with appendicitis… I couldn’t believe that at 60 it happened to me, but it did and my entire mind was boggled by it, thankfully they didn’t burst but the doctor said it looked like they were close to doing so. I am grateful that the pain has gone away as it was worse than my current back pain is.

Today’s release is January’s Quilt Block Mania block. The theme is Romance… such a great theme and for such a fun upcoming holiday. I chose to do a fun gnome much like last year’s but slightly different. I hope you will enjoy it.

The free pattern includes only the 12-inch pattern. The full release pattern includes 9, 12, 15, and an 18-inch pattern.

This pattern is very easy to create. It does contain a bit of required embroidery but you could easily use your sewing machine to create the lines on the beard.

  1. Love your newsletter that’s not a newsletter! Also can’t wait to try some of these blocks…so cute! Stay well!

  2. Thank you. Sew cute.
Hope you are feeling better. I’m so sorry to read about all your health problems lately. Please take care of yourself. Hugs

  3. Thanks for the super cute pattern – sorry to hear about your health issues – praying this is the last one you will suffer and 2021 will be a better year for you and all of us!

  4. Such a cute gnome! Thanks for sharing your creativity! Hope you recover Totally soon, with no new afflictions. My husband also suffered appendicitis later in life & needed surgery. Not good when you are allergic to the pain meds given to make one feel more comfortable …. Take care.

  5. Thank you once again for a very timely and cuter than cute quilt block pattern. I see a great many gnome blocks in my future.

  6. Wow! If you didn’t have bad luck, you’d have no luck at all, would you? I guess appendicitis has no age limits, but what a bummer!! I so hope the rest of 2021 continues to improve for you! Thanks so much for the freebie for the Quilt Block Mania. It’s absolutely darling!! 🙂 Blessings to you and your family in the coming year and may Covid become just a bad memory this year!

  7. Adorable, as always, Marian! Thank you so much for the free block. Since I’ve never had a cutter, the SVG files did me no good, and I think I’m probably not alone in that. I’m glad you are making it easier on yourself!

  8. Your pattern is adorable! Thanks for sharing. I hope you’re feeling better and 2021 will be a better year for you.

  9. Thank you. I hope you are recovering, and send all the best wishes for 2021. Take good care, Marian, sending healing hugs.

  10. Darn! Just getting to use SVG’s and did not realize you had included them with your patterns! Would make getting the applique ready so much easier!
Love the new gnome (and I am not a gnome person) and think I will make one for one of my kids!
Thank you for all you do and have a Blessed New Year!

  11. Thank you so much! I just love all your gnomes! I understand about the health issues. I’m 63 and have my own. Hope you feel better soon!

  12. I love your gnome block. It is very artistic.
I hope your health improves. As if a pandemic and all the adjustments in life wasn’t enough, your body wants even more attention. I like reading your posts and the updates on your blog history.

  13. The gnome is a great addition to the theme and so timely. Thanks for sharing. Hoping for an easy week for you healthwise.

  14. Thanks for the cute block. I sure hope you get to feeling better fast. Our age seldom keeps us from things we thought were no longer relevant, although I wish it were so.

  15. Your patterns are always adorable – they just make me smile each time I come across them! I hope your health is on the upswing and the new year treats you wonderfully!

  16. Glad to hear that you will be doing the BOM lists. I have found some wonderful patterns I would never have seen without your list. I’m sure it takes a lot of hours to compile. I appreciate your hard work.

Your love gnome is adorable. Thank you.

  17. This is adorable. Thank you so much. I think this will be great on a pillow for the month of February
