Sam In Japan and Greece Released

Sam In Japan and Greece are released today and my sincerest apologies that this post is so late in the day. I’ve mentioned before I won’t release a pattern until I know it stitches out correctly and I needed to finish up my stitching on the blocks. Here we are now into the 7th month of the year in Sunbonnets. Today’s release marks the 14th Free block to be offered in this series and the 12th Flickr Reward block release.

Next Months Free Release Is Sue and Sam In Antartica. The FlickR Reward block will be the Australian block and let me just say I was pretty surprised. I really thought Australia was going to take it from the very start of the poll.

All in all, it was a pretty close race, but Antartica just had a bit of an edge and stayed that way thru the whole two weeks of voting.

stbs-August Poll-2016-0718-001I am caught up with FlickR rewards, so if you haven’t received a coupon in your email, please re-submit it.

If you’ve just found this Block Of The Month, each month at the first of the month, you get to choose what will be released for the next month. The winning block is released as the Free block, the other is the FlickR Rewards block.

There were several people who turned in blocks in the Flickr group, in the past few weeks. If you haven’t visited to see the blocks, be sure to go and see the other blocks. Sometimes it helps to see what others have to do to get your own creative juices flowing. I love each one of them, it’s amazing to see what other people do and how they interpret their own colors to use.

When you finish and post/upload your block to the Flickr group, you’ll get one of the blocks that will go up for sale free. If you end up finishing the 24 released in 2016, you will get them all free. It’s a great way to get a “missed” block also. Details to turn in blocks is below the download images below, and will also be added to the Guidelines and features post. I will also add it to the menu page here.

Please note: You can finish any of the blocks at any time during 2016 and upload them to the Flickr group to claim one of the blocks for sale. For every block, you upload to the Flickr group you can get 1 free. The one exception to this is if you make as an example 2 Sam In Brazil blocks, you still only get 1 free choice.

I know, you’re waiting for the download, so let’s get right to it.. Here you are…

The Greek pattern uses a tassel in three places. There are many tutorials on creating your own tassels on the net, and I personally will be creating my own tassel also for my blocks.

The best tutorial I found for creating your own tassel is located here. It is very clear, uses many images and is overall just awesome. I could have sat at this blog forever, she has a lot of great posts that intrigue me. I’ll be visiting her again soon.

  1. I hope things are okay… As I don’t see the posting to get today’s Sunbonnet pattern for August 1st.

  2. You have certainly made your summer a busy one! I love Japanese Sam, thank you, and I’m really surprised about the outcome on the vote, too. Looks like I’m going to have to actually spend some money! LOL

  3. Thank you so much. The Sam in Japan Craftsy free download states it’s $1.50. The Sue in Japan comes free. Just wanted to know if this is a glitch.

    1. Hi Faith, The free pattern is offered in two types, one is for people with cutting machines who wish to have the svg files already created for them. I charge a very small fee for this additional service. So you’ll always see a $1.50 priced pattern during the free release, and a free pattern, the only difference between those files is that the svg files are in the non-free pattern. When I signed out of Craftsy and clicked the links you mentioned, they are not wrong. I think what your seeing is that the paid pattern is directly linked to, the free pattern is directed to my page with all the patterns on that. i started doing this on purpose a few weeks ago, as I don’t have to come back to the post later and note that the pattern is no longer free. It also allows me to upload the pattern early and change it when it turns to free without having to come and change the link, so it’s a timesaver for me which I really need at the moment. 🙂

  4. Thank you so much for this ongoing series. These designs are wonderful. One small complaint 🙂, I was really hoping Australia would win since there are no polar bears in Antartica. Guess I’ll have to think of a modification. 🤔

    1. You could always finish 2 of any of the free ones and upload to Flickr to get the Australia blocks free… 🙂 you have till December to do it.
