Quilt Qwazy Queens Starts Today…

Quilt Qwazy Queens 2019

Quilt Qwazy Queens 2019It’s that time of the year again when Worldwide Quilting Day rolls around to what seems to always be the third Saturday in March. I’m kinda waiting for the 1st of March to fall on a Sunday to see if that date changes, but I won’t know until next year when it will finally fall on a Sunday. Next year it will either fall on the 14th or the 21st. We shall see 🙂 My way of celebrating this special day is by offering this same blog hop each year with a different theme. I don’t like to ask quilters to make anything although they are certainly free to do so, but instead I like for them to draw from there history as a quilter which I believe brings us all together in that special way.

This year I’ve asked them to show off the craziest thing they ever made. I’m very excited to see what they’ve done or come up with this year to show off.

Be sure you look inside, the giveaways will be are set so you can leave a comment at each site, and if the blogger has a social media page or a shop these links have also been added to give you more opportunities to enter the giveaways.

I’ve also got my free pattern per day during the hop on this page, so be sure you check out the pattern of the day to.

Here is the schedule today:

Melva Loves Scraps | Words & Stitches
Websterquilt | Seams To Be Sew

My Craziest Project…. Today For QQQ… New Patterns Released Also…

Gnome 2

Quilt Qwazy Queens 2019My project is a wearable. When I first started quilting back in 1988, it never occurred to me to make wearables as a quilted project. At that time, rotary cutters were not even a widely used product in the quilting world. I had already been using a rotary cutter for cutting patterns with for clothing. I used drapery weights instead of pins for my patterns and then cut around those patterns with a rotary cutter. Suffice it to say when I took my first quilting class in January of 1988, I blew everyone in class away with how fast I cut out that Log Cabin quilt for the shapes needed. Even my teacher had never heard of a rotary cutter. As time passed and I grew stronger as a quilter, I started taking classes at some of the shops in Washington D.C. and Pittsburgh. Back then we lived in Cumberland, Maryland which is situated about 2 1/2 hours from Pittsburgh and D.C, even tho they are in opposite directions. I didn’t go to Pittsburgh quite as often as I did D.C., but I did love the shops there and the one thing that got me there was a good class. The project that I’m showing today is from a class I took in Pittsburgh back in 1991.

Lets Get Crazy With Quilt Qwazy Queens

Quilt Qwazy Queens 2019

Quilt Qwazy Queens 2019Coming this Friday, March 15, is Quilt Qwazy Queens. I hold this event each year to honor Worldwide Quilting Day. It’s one of my favorite events of the year.

Each year I pick a different theme for this event which I hope will be fun for everyone. This year I asked bloggers to show us there craziest projects they ever made. It could include crazy fabric, or something that turned out just fun and wacky, or could use various materials to make a quilt like a project. I can’t wait to see what everyone shows off starting this coming Friday. I’ll give you a hint.. mine is not necessarily quilted, but has a quilted effect. I made it nearly 30 years ago when I was first learning to quilt and because it’s wearable, and yes, I do still wear it today I get many comments on it. It will be fun to see what you all think of my crazy and wacky project.

Today I am providing the schedule so you can plan your schedule.

Quilt Qwazy Queens Final Day 05 …

Quilt Qwazy Queens 2018

Quilt Qwazy Queens 2018

Today is the final day of Quilt Qwazy Queens and other than announcing todays The Fat Quarter Shop and Quilters Dream winner which will be tomorrow, I must say it has been a lot of fun to see everyone’s projects, read about there UFOs, and just a joy to see some of them get done. This was our 3rd year doing this same blog hop, its name does not change each year, last year I started adding the year onto the name as I think it’s cool to do this one every year.

I will be featuring my UFO today in a separate post, it will be located directly on the link of this post with the schedule, so it will take you to my post.

I’d like to just take a moment and thank you for visiting, for your comments, letting me know how much you’ve enjoyed this blog hop. I wish to thank the sponsors for there generosity in offering giveaways for each day of this hop, and to the bloggers who wrote a post about there UFOs, whether finished or unfinished and even for the tips on what you can do with those unfinished projects.

So, lets get to the schedule…

Quilt Qwazy Queens – My Day On The Hop…

Quilt Qwazy Queens 2018

Quilt Qwazy Queens 2018I’ve talked about this project for weeks now… and while it’s not quite finished or as finished as I’d like, I have enough done that you can at least see it and see the layout and such.

This project stems from my time on Genie Online Services back in the 1990s. This quilt has traveled with us from Virginia where my time on Genie was, to Arkansas, Texas, California, Germany, Italy and now resides in Colorado with us. I attempted to start putting this together while we were in Germany, but I quickly realized that while I had good intentions I didn’t have all the necessary supplies I needed to finish this quilt… Mainly rulers.

This quilt was created in all by 25 people on Genie, Continue reading
