The Four Seasons Blog Hop Is Here Today…

Four Seasons Blog Hop - Island BatikFor the last few weeks, the 2017 Island Batik Ambassadors for 2017 have been doing a blog hop with the theme of the Four Seasons, featuring fabrics that are coming out in the quilt shops over the next few months.

Today I am doing a project with a Fall Theme in mind, the line I am showing is called the Pumpkin Patch collection. I love love love the fabrics in this collection.

These are the beautiful fabrics in the Pumpkin Patch Collection.

My project for this hop is a cute wallhanging I designed in Electric Quilt.

The picture doesn’t do this wallhanging justice. I am absolutely in love with this wallhanging and how it turned out.

Artwork for this pattern is from Trina Clark

I wish I could say it was finished, but I didn’t have the time to get it quilted.

I did try some new techniques with this wallhanging, I completely designed the scarecrow for an in the hoop applique which I have never done before. It had to be split also for a 12-inch block which again I’ve never stitched out a split applique design. There are a few burps, but overall I am very happy with how it turned out.

No fusible web was used for placement to apply the applique shapes. I used a glue stick instead.

The middle blocks on the outer border were completely done in the hoop, as were the half square triangles in the Friendship Star block. (the four corner blocks).

The scarecrow shapes were cut using a technique that Julie Balzer shows on her youtube channel for cutting fabric on your cutting machine with Freezer Paper. I gotta admit, this is my newest favorite way to cut fabric on a cutting machine.

Julie shows how to do this technique in a very quick 4 minutes and it 100% works very well. The one thing I would recommend is to be sure your mat is not “new” sticky. You don’t want that as it is difficult to scrape the paper off the mat, and the more sticky your mat is, the worse it is to get off. You really want a mat that is sticky, but not new sticky.

I will post a tutorial myself for this technique later this week and I’ll also share the files to create half square triangles in your embroidery machine.

Later today, I will post the next continuous line design.
